Prior to election
Before Barrack Obama was elected for President of the United States of America, there was conflict and controversy through out the US. The thought of an African American as a president was never thought of in this Republican country. Southerners, or “Rednecks,” were shocked to hear that a black Democrat dominated the polls. Democrat Hillary Clinton, wife of former president Bill Clinton, also ran for president. In the span of many years, no one would consider an African American for president, let alone a woman. If anything, a black man would probably become president before a woman. African Americans have been “liberated” for decades, as opposed to women who have just recently got the same rights as men. As a woman, my boyfriend argues, she would have gotten assassinated early in her term, just like rumors that were spread about Obama. Either way, a black man and Muslim at that, or a woman president, would have been a conflict for the United States of America. Change is important to the US but ignorant individuals aren’t open for it. As Hillary Clinton realized, this nation needed change. Later on in the election, she went from running against Barrack Obama, to dropping out of the election to support Obama and his promises on change.
